THE CAFE

Built originally as a mercantile serving the mountain community, over the years the building has been home to various cafes, a bar and a community center. Around 1929 the Lizard was the scene of a raucous Jack Dempsey boxing demonstration.

The full service cafe is located in a charming, hundred year old adobe & stone structure with eleven-foot high pressed tin ceilings, hardwood floors and three foot thick walls. One can feel the old stories just by walking in the door.

Inside, one is treated to a 900 square foot sponge-painted dining room with espresso bar and wood stove. Boxing demonstrations have given way to art shows, live music and fully catered special events.

Just off the dining room is a dreamy 250 square foot screened porch with a red saltillo tile floor and potted plants--a favorite place for viewing wild summer storms and glorious golden red sunsets.

Today, this established cafe has a new 400 square foot wood deck for outdoor dining. This sun deck offers spectacular views in every direction, comfortable tables, chairs, umbrellas and summer flowers.
